Who doesn’t like popcorn?

Seth Godin doesn’t like popcorn, but it helped him make an interesting observation about the success of products in the marketplace. He said…

…it’s interesting to note that very few people make a lot of money from popcorn. For a product this ubiquitous, it’s surprisingly unsuccessful. Coke and Nike and Marlboro are a lot more powerful than Jiffy Pop.

Popcorn does some things right — it’s easy to sample and consistent in quality — but our commitment is much greater for other products.
